Friday 2:00-3:30 The Coffeehouse percolated with load up: hat and costume adornment galore! The wise few came early, many more came later to help get their costume on.
7:30 - 9:00
Broadside Johnnie / Twin Sons of Different Seamen (esoterica nautica raucus antiqua with John Remington '83 & Tony Sciola of Vivid Curve )
Highlights:
- pleasant weather allowed us to move our set to the Vollum steps.
- Ben Bradley '88 stuck around for our whole set!
- some Random Dude sat down next to us with a long black case. Naturally I thought he was headed to lower Commons to play pool. He reached into the case a pulled out a musical saw and the bow he plays it with. The thereminic sounds he coaxed from the saw added an other-worldly dimension to the songs he joined in on.
- some other Random Dudes who were clearly ahead of the RennFayre Attitude Adjustment curve stumbled upon our set and also attempted to join in with a fine display of one hand clapping. After a few tunes, they moved on, but left an unlabeled 375 ml green screw-top wine bottle with some opaque liquid in it. I advised my partner not to sample it, and disposed of the contents as a favor to the good folks at the White Bird tent.
- some Ancient Dude, unknown to me, but likely a Reed neighbor, paused his perambulation to listen to our rendition of the capstan chantey "Bold Riley". He thanked us with "That's the real stuff". I do believe we brought a tear to his eye.
